    Next questions folks...

To what extent should I be expected to do the running round for the insurers? They've sent me a letter saying this...

To progress your claim further we've agreed that you will get me an estimate to repair the TV and an estimate to replace the TV. Should the TV not be repairable can you get me a cause of damage report which would state that the TV cant be repaired. I will also require pictures of the damage TV

I can easily take photos of the TV, but as for getting an estimate to repair the TV and a cause of damage report, surely this is the insurer's responsibility?

It is ultimately down to the insured to prove their claim to insurers.

Wow, you learn something every day! I would have thought for something non-portable like a TV, the insurer would arrange for a company to view/take away the item

In 25 years of having insurance i've never had to prove anything to the insurance company, they either come out, take pictures and settle with cash, or agree to replace the items etc, but i've never had to get any reports etc.

They can do, but not all insurers maintain a supplier network. In addition, asking you to get your own report is normally an anti fraud measure.

    It does vary by insurer.

Unfortunately whichever route insurers go someone will be annoyed by it. Some people like the convenience of insurers just appointing a company to deal with things. Others hate not being able to choose their own providers.

If an insurer does have a network it will want to push as much business as possible through it to get the maximum volume discount
