Issues with spark energy

Options
Ok so me and my (now ex) partner moved into out first flat in jan 2013. From what i remember we weren't told who our supplier would be, so we set upon doing research and decided to go with british gas. To be told our current supplier was spark, that it was changed recently for us by our letting agency and that spark were blocking the transfer to them. I also never remember spark sending out any welcome letters or asking to set up direct debits. So we tried again and again were refused. This we on for a while and i also never remember getting any monthly bills/statements from them which was weird since they were apparently our supplier. I still have all paper work from this 2 bedroom flat and there isn't a single spark energy statement in there. After three months british gas were finally able to take over (so we didn't know who our supplier was for the months previous) and for the next four months we were fine. Unfortunately the relationship didn't work out so after the 6 month contract ended, we moved out. After moving out i had a few issues with british gas but did sort this out and pay the final bill from them. This was a month or two after moving out.
I never heard anything from spark at all. Until a year later. They have now been non stop calling me saying i haven't payed their final bill. They had also sent this onto a collecting agency as well. So I rang spark and spoke to a young girl over the phone and enquired why i was being billed such a high amount over a year later and why they hadn't bothered to contact me sooner if i owed them anything. She apologised on the phone and said that she could see we hadn't tried contacting us and that the final bill was in fact a lot smaller (was about £80-£90) rather than the nearly £200 i was told via voicemail. She basically said since it wasn't a large bill and since it was their fault the hadn't contacted us to resolve it, she'd remove it for me as it was no longer a valid bill or something? I also said since she has done this could she put on my file to stop the phone calls as well so I'm not harassed any more i double checked before hanging up that i'd no longer need to worry about the bill or phone calls and she agreed.
They did indeed stop for a whole but around 2 months later they started again by them and also by the collecting agency, stating i owed about £180. I told the collecting agency that i spoke with spark and that they have removed the bill so i shouldnt be getting card by them anymore and they said they'd check with spark and call me back. After nothing the same thing happened, another call asking for money, me stating i didn't owe any, and them saying they'd check and get back to me. I decided to go straight to the problem and call spark again. This time i spoke to a man and told him my issue, he said there was no record that the bill was ever removed and that they would never agree to something like that, and also that there was no record of that phone call ever even happening. I was furious. He said that the only calls he has a record of are the ones from the agency trying to find out whats going on. But even then he didn't actually tell me. He just stated that there is no record of the phone call and the bill is still in place at £180 and needs to be payed. And until something is arranged it will get interest as well. I asked why did the phone calls stop for months then when this phone call happened. He didn't have an answer and just said 'just because the calls stop doesn't mean the bill doesn't need to be payed'.
I am now at a loose end. Ive gone on for a while mot having to worry about this bill anymore with is suddenly been thrown on me that i owe even more and that the phone call never happened so im basically making it up. Not happy.

Please excise bad grammar and spelling as im typing on my phone :)
