Tax Disc Refund
Hi Guys
My vehicle has recently been written off.
The insurance company has collected it from the garage to be destroyed. My question is How do I obtain a car tax refund without a certificate of destruction?. I have the relevant form which is a v14 and it is asking for a signature from the dismantler which I do not have. Is it ok to send back the relevant section(9) with just my signature on as the last registered keeper?
Hope this makes sense
Thanks in advance

Normally you have to leave the tax disc with the vehicle when the insurer takes ownership of a vehicleThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi thanks for your prompt reply. I removed the tax disc in order to claim a refund as the vehicle was to be scrapped. So do you think that I should contact the insurers and ask their advice as I do not have too much faith in the advice they have provided so far.
Thanks again0 -
the vehicle isn't yours if they paid out, ring and ask them if they are going to claim it back0

As you have the disc, you can use a form V14, (V33 is if you haven't) with the 'transferred to the trade' (part 9) of the V5C.
The certificate of destruction will only be issued when the vehicle is actually destroyed.0 -
Hi Thanks again for all your help
On the V5C/3
It says the I need to sign as the registered keeper and
The Motor trader, insurer or dismantler also need to sign the slip however I do not have their signature.
Does this mean that it only requires my signature?0 -
Add a letter explaining that you couldn't get the V5C/3 completed by the insurance company.0
