Tax Credits

In June 2008 I received a letter from the tax credits saying that they had overpaid us by £4955.55. My application pack had always been sent the correct figures which were issued to us from the tax people. I spoke several times stating that it couldn't be wrong as I had submitted my P60 and my husband his. However back in 2010 we were both made redundantly my husband was out of work for 2 years so debts incurred as it was only me working. I have just received a couple of letters from a company called Equita first of all saying that they will remove my possessions and another saying that I will be taken to court unless I pay up or offer a short term payment. Although we are snow both working I can't afford to pay a large sum of a money back when I am still trying to sort out other debts. What do you advise I should do. It seems like when we are told we are entitled to something years later they come along and say no and want it all back. Everything was done in the proper way so I don't know know they got it wrong.:(:(

  • I have been disputing all the time because when I go back over the forms they have me down as earning 70 thousand ( I wish) the joint income with my husband and I was £17 thousand and they had copies of my P60 and my disbands documents from the tax people as well.

Whether the OP disputed it within time or not there should be no case to answer if the tax office are basing their calculations on a figure which is incorrect.
