Would anyone here have an opinions on both the costs of installing and also the costs of running heating in a terraced house if installing either gas or oil heating?

Is there much difference in installation/running costs of gas v oil (particularly in Belfast)?

Thanks!

  • I you have to put in a new system and you have access to mains gas, then the gas will be cheaper to run hands down.... no real comparison.. don't even consider oil ....

Never had oil, but a friend who does seem to spend loads of time looking for deals and paying out £300+ to buy her oil.

    Gas all the way.

Gas has to be bought as well, and in my experience it is more expensive

If you cannot get mains gas, how about an air-source heat pump ? (If the building is well insulated, etc).

I have never heard of bought in gas, only mains gas, for heating - so no idea of cost.

Mains gas is a LOT cheaper...... LPG (Cylinder Gas) if having to have it delivered is much of a muchness with oil....

Can't give any advice about installation costs but having lived in fairly comparable semi detached houses with oil and mains gas, the running cost of gas was quite a lot less than oil.

This site is also pretty good for comparing the cost of each fuel type:

    Thanks Guys.

So if I was to choose mains gas, is the company to use Phoenix Natural Gas, who I see advertised quite often?

I'm not aware of any competition, so perhaps this is the only available company?
