HUMAX HDR20000T 500GB I just wanted to ask a question here I took delivery of the above today and was unable to get it to set up properly Initially there were just a few channels and then it said no signal
I called Humax Support and they did all the trouble shooting of automatic set up manuel set up but no channels etc After trying various no's which I understand are different transmitters they have said it is a fault tuner I got a reference no and called Richer Sounds to say that Humax have asked them to replace it for me.
I have done so and the new one will arrive on Wed. I just hope there is a problem and that it is not some error on my part My TV is working so no problem with the transmitters I am worried now that the new one will arrive and I am scared to try and set it up myself in case I run into a problem again Advice would be appreciated Should I get someone to set it up for me ? I have set up printers modems etc without a problem but this has given my confidence a dent
Thanks again Sue

Try it again with the new tuner. If Humax have diagnosed a fault and offered to replace it then why doubt them?
You don't need anyone else to set it up, follow the same procedure.
The only possibility is that you have marginal signal strength from your aerial and the Hummy is not picking it up-all tuners vary in sensitivity, so you might need a booster. Is it a proper external aerial? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I live in a top 3rd floor Apartment and have never had a problem with a signal for anything The aerial is in the attic and was replaced when I bought a new TV some years ago just before we went Digital The previous Goodmans worked and while this would not the TV is fine Thanks for your very prompt response and I will see how things go on Wednesday and take it from there He did say that he tried 3 different transmitters I had to go to different channels one being 44 and another being 21 I think can't remember what the 3rd one was There was 0% strength and 0% not sure one light orange and the other light green writing but nothing on the actual bar just looked gray to me Again will wait and see and Thanks as ever Sue0

Can I ask what a booster is an how much is it likely to cost I have a smart TV with no problems I will see how it goes with the new box and take it from there

It has two tuners. It's a bit strange for them both to be faulty unless it's in some common part like the power supply. When you connect the aerial to the television through the Humax receiver does the television still work?0

A booster amplifies the signal from the aerial. But wait and see what happens with the new PVR first. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

You probably won't need a booster (amplifier.
DO keep the aerial fly-lead as far away from the hdmi cable as possible on its way between units. Try alternative fly-leads and/or hdmi cables if you have them. Thick hand-made aerial leads are usually better than the thin white moulded ones often supplied with set top boxes.0 -
Since my previous post I have seen this.
http://myhumax.org/forum/topic/hdr-2000t-no-loopthrough
The loopthrough referred to means the television signal from the aerial will only be forwarded by the Humax unit to the television while the Humax unit is switched on. While it is in standby the television will not work. That's nothing to do with the fault you've got, but it's a useful check to make to be sure the aerial leads are connected correctly.0 -
Thanks for all your advice I am wondering if I have set it up correctly but now have the 2nd one for delivery tomorrow so should I just wait and start over. I will not do anything about a booster until I see how it goes with the new box.

Just to update you My new box arrived this am and I was able to successfully set it up in just a very few minutes I am delighted and it was so easy Thank you for encouraging me to try setting it up myself My confidence has been restored Secondly thank you for asking me to wait and see rather than buying a booster I might not need I still need to study just how everything works and will do so once I have time to read the User Manual.
Another job well done by you experts!! at Martin Lewis What would I do without you !! Many many thanks Best regards Sue0 -
Glad you got it sorted. Humax PVR's are generally very reliable, so it seems you were just unlucky first time aroundNo free lunch, and no free laptop0
