Help Need - DWP

Is it possible for someone to help me.
I have been on ESA for 3 years and would like to know how I can get the DWP to pay the interest on my mortgage.
Not really sure what the criteria is so have never tried claiming it.
I have read the Direct Gov sight but don't really understand it. I am not thick or anything it's just the fact it is the DWP it all just confuses me.
Thanks:cool:

Are you on contributions, or income-based ESA.
Do you have savings of over 16000 pounds (in any form, including property other than your house).0 -
I think it is contributions as I have paid a full stamp for 25 years.
No I have no savings. Not even £16.00 never mind £16,000. LOL0 -
Do you have a partner?0

I have a husband but the mortgage is all mine.
He has been paying it for 4 years now but was just wondering if I could get help as it is crippling him.0 -
you wont get SMI if your household income is above the level of income related benefits.
you say the house is 'all mine', but he lives with you and so is expected to cover the cost if you cant.
its called supporting your spouse

To be eligible for the income based part of ESA your household income is taken into account. Therefore your husband's income would be included in the assessment which would make you ineligible and therefore no support for mortgage interest.0 -
DWP need to know Original capital amount borrowed & if known the current capital outstanding left.
They will pay 3.63% interest due to your lender on amount upto £200k borrowing for ESA IR, so if your interest rate is higher then you will still need to pay difference. Also if you are on a repay't mort the capital portion also needs paying.
If you're not on IR ESA then you need an ESA3 1st to move you to that.
It will take a while to sort out as some lenders are very slow to send their bit back to DWP.0 -

I didn't "mean the house is all mine" and nobody else's, I meant my name is solely on the mortgage as I took it out years before we got together.
I do understand that we are married and supporting your spouse is part of that.
But just wondering what the criteria was and if I fell into it.0 -
Thank you everyone who replied. Much appreciated.0

Contributions based ESA is only paid for 12 months unless you are in the Support Group. If you aren't then you will be getting Income Related benefit.
If your husband has been paying the mortgage I assume he's working full time, so I don't actually understand how you are getting anything from ESA unless SG applies.0
