550 for car insurance?

hello!

I try to find a car insurance but the best I get is 550 per annum!
It is very expensive!
Can you help me choose the right car (I don't have yet but I am willing to buy soon) and advise me how to find cheaper insurance?
First, is insurance obliged by the law?
I don't know about temporary insurance, maybe this is cheaper?
I drive 15 years, without any problem ever, but I drive in Europe.
Maybe I should get a UK licence?
I am about a year in UK, maybe I can declare that I am longer?
The car I calculate the insurance with, costs only 750! And still tells me to pay 550 for insurance!
I read some other people pay 170 or so for insurance, which is a logical price.
Can you tell me please if there is any advice to lower my insurance?
Thanks!

Advise me how to find cheaper insurance? - Price comparison sites.
First, is insurance obliged by the law? - If your asking this then you really shouldnt be driving!....YES
I don't know about temporary insurance, maybe this is cheaper? - How long do you need the insurance for? 1 day or 365 days?
I drive 15 years, without any problem ever, but I drive in Europe.
Maybe I should get a UK licence? - Are you UK resident or not?
I am about a year in UK, maybe I can declare that I am longer? - No understand
The car I calculate the insurance with, costs only 750! And still tells me to pay 550 for insurance! - Means absolutely nothing I am afraid. You can kill as many people with a £750 car or a car that costs £10,000
I read some other people pay 170 or so for insurance, which is a logical price. - Based on what details, age, type of car, no claims bonus, postcode area, accident claims or convictions
Can you tell me please if there is any advice to lower my insurance? - Search for low grouped cars for a start
    Thanks!

    Hope some of that helps.

I assume you have Zero no claims bonus'. £550 seems a typical price, people with insurance of £170 usually have 70% discount for lots of years no claims bonus.

UK average premium is £504 according to the AA http://www.theaa.com/newsroom/bipi/201407-bipi.pdf

The average person also tends to have 4 years plus NCD which normally represents a 60% discount or more. So to get £550 without any NCD you arent doing too bad.

Unfortunately many british car insurance companies will not recognise no claims years gained abroad, I really don't think gaining a British license would make a lot of difference.

Are you getting quotes on comp insurance? You are only required to have 3rd party insurance in the UK as a legal minimum: however this will give you no cover for theft, fire, or damage to your own vehicle.
I would be interested to know which European country you are from where a basic level of motor insurance is not required by law?

I didn't say I know any place where no insurance is required, but I had to ask if here is the same too

Probably nowhere in Europe, but motor insurance is not compulsory in Indonesia, and, apparently, nor is a driving test!
