Default From 2012

Hi guys

I have a default on my credit record from 2012 that i think is affecting me from getting any credit and me and my partner are looking at buying a house next year.

Im positive i paid this off but i can't find the proof is there anything i can do about this?

thanks

On your credit file the account show as still having an outstanding balance?
Or does it show as a satisfied default with 0 balance outstanding?

  • It shows as an outstanding balance... this is what i don't get.... i remember having a monthly payment set up with them then paying a lump sum...

Can you check back on your bank statements to see what date you paid a lump sum?

I would write to the reporting company and point out that you settled the debt on x date and that their entry on your credit files at the credit reference agencies should be updated to reflect this.

  • it says the default was from 2008 and it was last updated 2012 apparently.... so does that mean it will be off the account this year?

Yes if an account has been defaulted then the account and default will drop off 6 years after the default date per the file (regardless of whether it shows as paid/unpaid/partially paid).

  • so i go 6 years from the default date which was 18/10/2008?? so it should come off 18/10/2014 is that right?

Once it is off will it make it easier for me to get credit? Im getting so upset over this.

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions or repeating myself

Yes it will come off on that date (well on equifax it can take an extra week or so - it shouldn't but it does).

If it is the only default/CCJ/major negative on your file then once it has dropped off you should then find it easier to get credit.
