Question re Disability Premium and Income

I wasn't sure whether to post here, or in Disability and Dosh. I posted another query there on Friday!

I've just been awarded PIP, enhanced rates for both components. This means I'll also be eligible for the Severe Disability Premium. Now, whilst I'm obviously thrilled at the increase in income, I have a couple of niggles.

I realise the PIP is disregarded as income as it's non-means tested, but from what I understand, the SDP is part of my ESA (please excuse me if I'm getting the facts wrong, but it's all been so mind boggling). I'm on Income Related ESA, in the Support Group.

So my question is, is the SDP regarded as income? If so, will I now have to pay more rent, council tax and so on?

Would be very grateful for any help!

The SDP is an additional premium - that increases your applicable amount - for the purposes of ESA.
Income related ESA passports you to full HB, and often council tax support.

Thanks Rogerblack. I already get full housing benefit (well, minus the bedroom tax....) and council tax help. I'm just concerned they'll now want me to contribute more towards my rent now my 'income' has gone up.

Hell, don't suppose I can complain!
  • As far as I know you get an extra premium added to your housing ben/CTSupport award which should mean that any extra income has less effect on them. Am fairly sure it does not count as income.
