Morning all

I purchased a new Samsung washer drier from AO, it was delivered on the 12/08/2014, unfortunately when I came to install it under the 600mm work top in my kitchen I found the washer drier to be larger then stated on AO's website......

The web page states a depth of 650mm however the actual size including hoses, knobs and drum door is in excess of 725mm.

After a couple of hours head scratching I thought we would be able to knock back the plasterboard and part of the wall to accommodate the hoses and partially sink the washer drier into the wall, however due to other commitments it took a couple of days to try this and realise that due to the presence of water pipes and electric cables this was not a practicable idea!!!

I have spoken to AO this morning and they were happy to take the machine back, and provide a refund, that was until I mentioned the machine was lightly scratched during the process of trying to make it fit into a gap not suitable for the oversized machine ( we couldn't tell how out of place it would look till it was in position) and that as thought a bit of DIY would make space for it we have done a couple of loads of washing!! They have now changed their mind and will not take it back for a full refund, they will only offer me 45% of its value which equals £292 for a £649 machine.....

I have tried looking through the Trade Descriptions Act and Consumer Contract Regulations, but cannot find any relevant legislation that covers this, I'm hoping someone out there can advise me if I have any rights or if I should just put the machine on eBay and take a £100 loss!!

Thanks in advance

Richie

It will work fine sticking out a couple of inches.

Ours sticks out by an inch or so at the top and by at least a couple of inches at the door and if you have normal worktops they are 600mm so it was always going to stick out.

    Keep or eBay.

You scratched it. You won't get a full refund. Nuff said.
  • It's a WD906U4SAGD-Samsung-Ecobubble.

Yes I agree all washing machines will stick out a bit and that is to be expected but this one sticks out 5 inches which i class as a bit excessive!!

I also agree I have scratched it, and would normally not even consider sending it back, but I am just trying to find out exactly what the legislation states about my rights due to the stated dimensions being wrong.

Not an expert on washing machines, but do the stated sizes usually mean the actual machine itself, or the hoses etc.

That is what I have always thought.

My new machine is particularly deep and does stick out more than my previous machines did- but I was aware that the measurements of this one were more than the one it replaced so it wasn't a surprise.
