When you do get to see a doctor, ask about getting your kidneys checked. When mine failed, I was in a lot of pain and vomiting. At first they thought it was my appendix, but it turned out to be my kidneys.0

I've just called my doctor.
First appointment next Tuesday.
My partner and I just had a conversation about requesting an emergency appointment.
His feeling is as I'm not well enough to wait a week I should ring back and get an emergency appointment
My take is it is debilitating but not life threatening so an emergency appointment is abusing the system.
The only thing we agree on is a week is too long to wait.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I agree with your partner Duchy. If it was life threatening, you'd go to A&E. As a week is too long to wait, then you need an emergency appointment at the GP surgery.0

Thanks for the heads up. The pain does go around my back on my right side so I have worried about this. Every time I do a urine test I'm told I have proteins in my wee, but not the other thing that makes it a water infection/UTI.
A lot of relatives and friends have described feeling similar pains when they had gallstones. Again, brought this up with my doctor as well as telling him there's a family history of it...nothing.
Gah! I'm sitting at work and it's just cramp after cramp! I wish it was time for AF!Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

You can have a blood test to check your kidney function. They look at things like potassium and creatinine levels. They'll be raised if your kidney's not functioning properly.0

Never had a problem. To me it's like this- if I need to see a doctor right now-I ask for an emergency appointment.its quite black and white.you ring up , you say " I'm in pain, I need to see a doctor this morning".
No point saying that to my GP surgery as it would get you absolutely nowhere.
You have to phone at 8am but then you just get an engaged signal for about 15 minutes. Then you get through and they tell you all the appointments are gone (think they only have a couple of on the day appointments)I've just called my doctor.

I wish we only had to wait a week for an appointment at our surgery. It is at least 3 weeks but often 4!The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Our surgery will only make appointments on the day. You ring at 8am, get the engaged tone for 20 minutes before finally getting through. If you're lucky, you get an appointment. If they've all gone you have to try again the next day.
If you see the doc and they say, come back in 4 weeks, you can't make an appointment then for 4 weeks time, you have to wait 4 weeks, then ring on the day.
It's flipping ridiculous!0 -

At my surgery you have a choice. You can ring at 8AM and get an appointment that day on the "combined list", which means you see whoever comes available next, like the queue at the bank. Or you can ask to see your own doctor and the receptionist will tell you she's on holiday for the next three weeks.
A doctor once said "I don't know anything about that, you need to ask you own doctor", then when I told him she was on holiday he made me an appointment with her for the next day.
Why see one doctor when two will do instead.0 -

I don't really get the option to pick doctors as they always give me appointments with the doctor who has seen me pretty much all of the time.
When I was put on the tramadol by the emergency doctor I went to work the next day and was violently sick all morning (I am never ever sick, not even from drinking) so my mum rang my doctors begging for an emergency appointment as I was throwing up blood. They wouldn't give me one.Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016
