basically a few days back my mother used a local ATM trying to draw out £200, in fact it was pretty much all we had for this week until next payday as we have had some issues with our car.
problem is the ATM didnt dispense the money, l only just found out about it (after moaning she didnt say sooner) and found that the money has been taken from her account essentially leaving us with less than a fiver to pay the rent and buy food..
they bank with Santander so we are wondering what the best number to call would be as lm not sure it could be called fraud but more a machine fault as when she finished the transaction she got her card back the machine opened and closed the cash dispenser (which no cash came out of) and immediately flashed up an out of order screen which suggests to me that either a software fault occurred or the cash was being dispensed and got stuck somewhere or at least those are my assumptions.
lm hoping someone knows of either a freephone number of a non-0845 based number.

Normally the funds get refunded within a few days.
But their should be a number on the back of the card for customer services, or go into a branch and explain.
and if you want a free or geographical number you can try.
i've had that before you go to withdraw money and the atm counts it be then displays a message unable to dispense money or cash, probably because its empty. and if it's a local atm i guess it's probably empty :P

Hi,
you say it was a few days ago, would think that it has been sorted by now.
Try same machine again or try a different machine.0 -
l just hope it does take a day or two.. because otherwise there will be nothing to eat.. rent wont be paid (we are ruddy trying to clear arrears as it is) and we wont be able to put any fuel in the cars in order to earn more money!!
tho the whole issue is pretty annoying to say the least.0 -
it happened on the 16th, my mother told me about how the machine didnt dispense the money and l remembered looking at their online banking (they ask me to check each week, mainly while they are working and dont have a computer) showed that the £200 she tried to draw actually had left the account despite no money being dispensed! either way will be calling the moment their lines open for business.[Deleted User] wrote:Hi,

Was the ATM a Santander one or another bank? If it was Santander then it may well be fixed already by now, if not it is likely to take a little longer, could be an extra day if it happens automatically or several days if it has to be handled manually.
Free numbers for Santander on saynoto0870 as paragon909 has said.0 -
managed to get through, no it wasnt a santander one, it noted itself as a bank of ireland one on the online statement..
we have been told that the money should be back in the account within 48hours pending an investigation, we are hoping this is the case as its going to be a tight week otherwise.. that and we are going to be extremely unhappy if we are told they try and tell us they cant do anything because 200 it allot to loose especially with mountains of debt.0 -

Let me be first to say don't ever let the bank know you operate like this as your parents have broken the bank's Ts & C's , the account is compromised from the bank's POV, and they will always lose any complaint.
Thread after thread on here uncovers and addresses this problem - I find it astounding that so many people are so daft (alternative words are available). The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
l wouldnt be that daft
besides l still live at home with parents due to my employment status so the computer used is within the household anyways.. 0
