Selling limits (throttling) NOT LISTING LIMITS

  • Perhaps it's because eBay knows there's too many sellers, so they divy up the sales to try to keep everyone.

So I pay to list something and ebay then hides what I've paid for...
I know it's been long suspected but prove it and I'm guessing that the EU competition rules may have something to say...

This is interesting. Is it just business seller or private too? Before the 20 items a month limit I used to list everything to end on Sunday evening (new and relists). My son is 10 and really into spreadsheets. It became a standing joke here that every week I would sell 20% of my listings. If I listed 60 I'd sell 12 and if 100 I'd sell 20. Maybe one less or more each way but never more. Also, every month my sales were always the same total within 5% of the average. .

unsure as I do not monitor my private accounts.

On my business account actual sale quantities change a good bit but monetary value is fairly consistent.
  • I don't know, I'm just answering a previous guy. What I do know, is the common myth that you can make "loads of money" on eBay easily, If you have a good idea and advertise widget A, another man will come along and advertise 2 of widget A, 3 of widget A, 4 of widget A, widget A plus widget B, widget A in pink, and widget A, pink with clogs on.

My feeling about this is that it's more by accident than design. Given Ebay's general (mis)management of their site for them to have such an intricate management of sales is probably beyond them.
There's probably something going on but I doubt it's anything like as sophisticated as the article implies.

lol my other half said that tonight, however my argument is anything that effects eBay's revenue they fix very rapidly. Best Match algorithm has had a lot of investment and R&D put into it

They paid fortunes for Cassini, I still haven't seen any evidence of it doing half the things they promised it would.
The workings of Best Match is debatable too. They've actually done a lot that effect their sales, most recently the password fiasco. Going back a bit, the cancellation of millions of listings by accident with no way of getting the history back on each listing.
I was effected by the latter, Ebay have never done anything to get back the trust they lost from me when they did it. There's also their messing up of Google search. They really are a shambles on some levels.

Yes....but they do know how to squeeze the cash out of sellers lol
  • Following on from my comment about there being too many sellers on ebay, the market is really ripe for a new ebay with about 300 invited sellers (only). Has anyone outside of eBay got the clout to do it???
