Zero feedback buyer in australia
Comments

insufficient detail; what sort of items? can they be obtained easily in Oz? New or s/hand? are these specialist items, the buyers of which form a world-wide community, like stamps or old car parts, or just random ubiquitous items which can be got anywhere and are bought by all and sundry? There are odd buying trends from Australia, back when postage wasn't as prohibitive as it is now for many items I sell I would have runs on products that sold to Australia. I never did fathom them out.
There isn't an Amazon there, so they have less buying options and more money to spend.
mgdavid - Yes I'm sure 2 out of 3 of the items are easy to buy in Australia. 2 are new and one is a collectable ceramic item.
RFW - Did all of your items arrive okay with the buyers in Australia? Would you post 3 items to a zero feedback buyer in Australia who had only just joined EBay 5 days previously? Just wondering what other people would do. I think I might use International Tracked and send all 3 items in the one box. Has anyone used this service? It works out £4 cheaper than sending them untracked separately."For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."0 -
I do have a comment at the bottom to ask people overseas to ask me about shipping before bidding but a lot of people don't read that.
This is rather off-topic, but I've been in Taiwan for the past couple of years. Being a shopping addict, and with the exchange rate being extremely favourable until late last year, I was importing multiple packages a week - a total easily in the hundreds, all arriving without a problem.
Last week I was after a particular piece of electronics that needed to be US-region, and found a good condition item on eBay with reasonable postage costs to Taiwan (US$27, not particularly high or low for this item). It had a comment about international buyers contacting the seller before bidding, so I sent a sentence along the lines of "I'm in Taiwan, contacting you before bidding as requested". Here was the reply:
"Please note that packages sent to Taiwan sometimes go missing in the mail. More than packages sent to other countries. I will be able to provide proof that I mailed the item, but I cannot be responsible if it does not arrive for some reason beyond my control. Please also note that shipping to Taiwan can be expensive. If you are ok with whatever the shipping cost may be, and you are ok with taking the risk of international shipping, then good luck, and I hope you win the auction. If you are not ok with these terms, please do not bid."
That's right. They decided that eBay rules did not apply to them, and they could charge whatever they liked for shipping after the auction ended - and if the package never arrived they were not responsible. :rotfl: Naturally, I immediately bid.
Sadly it ended a couple of dollars higher than my limit, so I never got to find out if they really would have ignored eBay's rules. Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
To answer the question about losses to Australia- I had a bad run about 2 years ago, lost more stuff going to Australia than the rest of the world including the UK for a year. None of it to new buyers so I blocked Australia for a while
We are only talking about 4 losses, but I rarely even have that number a year normally and these were all in about a 3 month period. Refunded all 4 and two got back to me quite a bit later to say items had arrived and they repaid me. I decided to unblock Australia again and haven't had issues since.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you are going to send them , would it work out better rather than posting 3 parcels to do one and send it signed for (or whatever way you are covered) It may work out the same cost wise?? Although I have no idea to be honest of the uk to oz postage prices or what you need for proof/to be covered.
(oops just reread and think you have that worked out)
No, if a buyer here does not get the item, if the seller has proof of postage then the buyer is basically left without -yes even after paying for it. The blame lies with Auspost but unless the parcel had added insurance on it, they won't pay out for missing parcels - sucks really for the buyer.
All parcels here have tracking numbers on them but for them to be covered, they have to be printed from ebay or our click and send system as these automatically upload the address so paypal/auspost can see the address it was sent to. If they are packed and paid for at the post office, yes you have a tracking number but the receipt has no address of where that parcel went to.So no proof of address in which case the seller would be out of pocket if it went missing .
As for letters, under 2 cm is a letter (over that is a parcel so prices jump from 70c then $1.40 for letter over 0.5cm to $8.15 - for anything over 2cm !! then it keeps going up so over 500g is like $13 then over 1kg etc etc.)
But no letters are covered as no proof of address. You can pay extra -think its $3/4 extra for registered-which gives proof.
As for PO BOXES , these are safe to send to although when I first heard of po boxes I though it was a scam thing -its really not. Probably safer really.
Anyway, I have begun to waffle ! Have you googled it is a proper address you are sending to ?0 -
The 2 of 3 items you sold -were they available on ebay au ? if so was there much of a price difference ?
Did the buyer ask for combined postage as in a reduced postage price ?
Just make sure you fully cover yourself / you parcel.0
