Car tax disc for 64 reg

I'm waiting to get a lease car through work, the car arrived at the dealership last week (I ordered it in April!)

I've been told that as it will be a 64 reg, it cannot be taxed until 1st September. Is this right?? Surely you can pre-book the tax so it is taxed and ready from the 1st September??

They are saying the car can't be delivered until 15th Sept as the tax takes up to 14 days to come!

I understand I can't drive the car until 1st Sept due to tax, but can't see why I have to wait another 14 days for the tax!

Can anyone help please, thanks :)

It doesn't sound right. If that was the case no one would be able to pick up their new car on 1 Sept.

When I picked up my car, there was no tax disc, that followed in the post along with the V5. Perhaps as the dealership may have lots of cars to distribute, then yours maybe far back in the queue, as they have to have a PDI service before the customer takes charge of the vehicle.

You can't drive the car until 1st Sept because it won't be registered for the road until then. But you don't need to wait for the paper disc to arrive in order to drive it. Registering it requires it to be taxed, so the very plates on it prove that it's taxed. B'sides, the tax disc won't be required at all after 1st Oct...

I suspect that the dealer are saying they won't actually get round to prepping and registering it until after the "new-plate-day" rush is out the way, and the lease company are fibbing to you to stop you moaning at them...
