My poor conifer is going brown and crunchy!!
I've only had these mini plants for a few months. And they have been getting more and more browned from the base up.
They get well watered (I think), especially with all the rain recently, there is drainage, and the affected areas are not in line with the sun.
What do you suggest?
Please help my suicidal plants.
Thanks

This does seem very common for conifers. Pretty much any of them I have ever seen soon seem to go that way.
Ummm...you wouldn't like to choose another type of plant instead? Might be easier...0 -
Well i am certainly open to suggestion.
Something similar that is easy to look after, and is evergreen if possible. Just something to add a bit of a barrier from my balcony, to the outside world.
I was planning on having 3 troughs in the end, rather than just this one.
Any suggestions?--- Hitting the thanks button as often as is needed ---0 -
I'm no expert but that isn't a lot of soil to support 4 small trees. Have you given them a good feed ?0

These aren't dwarf conifers. They're goldcrest conifers which are supposed to grow a foot a year. A trough is not suitable. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Oh really?
There was me thinking they were dwarf plants ideal for a balcony.
Any suggestions for what plant I could get that would be similar that would be better suited?
It looks like my green fingered mother will be adopting my conifers.--- Hitting the thanks button as often as is needed ---0 -
Some bedding plants would be ideal for your trough. You could plant some pansies now and they would see you through the winter. In spring I would plant some red geraniums.0

Just seen this - looks as if they could have been dried out by the wind. Conifers loose moisture through their leaves/needles very quickly & can't take it up quick enough through their roots. If you want something evergreen & not too big there are some nice Hebe's & some flower too or Box can be trimmed to shapeSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

grown this in troughs - very amenable to all conditions - grew clematis through it -easy to increase from cuttings/layering.0 -
If you want low maintenance... you could just paint the brown bits as they go brown.... and end up with fully painted ones that don't need any maintenance0
