Taking CBT and theory now and then doing full test when 24
Hey all I am 22 and I want to go for my motorbike licence. I can't stand waiting any longer to get on the back of a motorbike and was thinking about doing my CBT and theory and then taking the full test when 24. My CBT and theory should still be valid then.
Is this a viable option or do I have to do the CBT with A a class motorbike?

I would not do it with such a long break. While some rules are common sense, others like breaking distance get easily forgotten. You need keep your wits about you when driving a bike, far more than in a car.0

I think the question would be - why? Why would you want to do that? Why not pass your test and then, if you're wanting to wait until age 24 before buying a bike, take a refresher course.0

Unfortunately you can only take the full unrestricted A test at 24. So I'd have to pass the A2 test now and then pay to take another in two years time.0 -
...by which stage, you'll have two years of experience of riding a smaller bike, and be far more likely to survive.0

If you're 22 now and have no valid CBT you will still have to do CBT first. CBT is valid for only 2 years. Doing A2 at your age seem a bit like a waste of money as now A2 does not become full A after 2 years.
If I was you I would probably just do CBT and get some cheap 125cc bike. Then book the test at the age of 24.
Riding 125cc bikes for a period of time is not such a bad thing. You build up your NCDs so bigger bikes won't be so expensive to insure later.0 -
^^what he said^^
I had a CBT for a couple of years and rode around on my 125. I stupidly let it lapse instead of doing my full test. After I redid my CBT I took my full A test (in the years when you could do a full A test on a 125) and the confidence I had after a few years on a bike really helped.
Listening very carefully when doing the CBT also helped, cos they gave really good pointers as to how to pass the test.
These days, I would get the CBT, get some miles under your belt on a 125, then go for the full A when you're 24.
For really good advice, go to the bikechatforums dot com and ask teh same question.
