Some fantastic pointers here, thanks everyone - yes i forgot to mention we definately want to do it diy, we always do anyway but apparentely the package tours in burma the money goes straight into the governments pockets rather than locals so best avoided (so we've heard).
Am so excited! Thanks particularly for the ballooning over bagan tip, that was on my list to do and no idea we had to book so that saved a huge disappointment
