Sainsbob's aint half expensive!!
Hmm, we mentioned this. Correction: I got into mentioning it. Sainsbobs were perceived as more pricey and that is not helpful to them. The BM changed people's perception on their pricing proposition. (Maybe those "you've saved 5p" coupons help?) People are assured that their brands won't cost more at Sainsbury's or, if they do, that they will be compensated the difference. That has attracted footfall to Sainsbobs, and was one of the reasons why they had a very good pre-Christmas period recently.
At the same time, I mentioned, Sains is also seeking to differentiate itself on its own brand products, allowing it to charge more for what it then says is better quality (... or maybe the "better quality" claim came first..chicken or egg?..anyway...). It seems 14p is possibly the mode value that Sains. has decided is worth paying extra for to get their own brand products. I wonder which research told them this?:rotfl::rotfl:
SP Cloths vs Basics Cloths - 14p more expensive in S
Value Cornflakes vs Basics Cornflakes - Basics 14p more expensive.
14p per item - in my view not worth it!!
If you want to spend more, rather than save money, shop in Sains.
(There's obviously some research on which they have settled that 14p is the value that people place on Sains Basics products.)
Twopack toothbrush T and S difference 7p. Oh, there's my theory shot down, but why let this ruin a good argument?
UHT Milk 49p T 65p S - 14p difference
Lettuce 40p T, 50p S - 10p difference
Salted Peanuts 48p, 80p - 32p difference (I think Sains have long been more expensive?)
With the economy improving, people presumably have more money around to spend and S is capitalising on that? If people want the Basics range, either they will see it is more expensive - too expensive for them - and go someone else (if reasonable alternative option is available to them) or they will be willing to pay the extra for "Sains. better quality". Perhaps S is trying to say, or suggest, its Basics range is no longer the low-end range but is equivalent to the standard products e.g. what would be Chosen by You or plain T at A/T - and therefore can charge everyone what would be CBY prices elsewhere. Perhaps in doing that it is aligning itself with Waitrose. Yet, W has been very successful as a business.
My view is clear - I'm off to A for my products and not willing to pay extra for Sains. On this, I perhaps wish that A and T were prevented from comparing own brand items (certainly vs Sainsbobs) as that would certainly help us for them all be to N/A vs S in future! On these newer pricings.
I noticed, on a post of a T vs A comp (showing the others too), that even the loose bananas had risen in Sains. Although Sains. is "fairtrade" and is of course promoting this. (Fairtrade, thankfully, makes them N/A vs Sainsbobs on the APG.)0 -

Congratulation on your 5th star and thanks for all the helpful posts many of which are in the early morning hours and I don't thank as i am not logged in on the ipad but your effort is appreciated :T0 -
I am sure I am missing an innuendo there.
BTW my old Tom Tom died yesterday had a red cross bigger than aau's when I turned it on.
Thankfully had that new glitchy £50 Go Live one that I had not bothered setting up yet. So journey start was delayed quite a while as had to do that. Should have done it as soon as I got it really.
But what a brilliant buy, took me around the hold ups close to home, was driving parallel to traffic jam at one point. :T
Took me off M27 for a magical mystery tour of Hampshire so I totally missed M3 supposedly cut 15 minute off journey doing that but all together a 3 3/4 hour journey took 5 ish.
And it had taken me half hour to get the doors to open first thing to load up the car with DD2's uni stuff, I seem to have a problem with my central locking the key was only opening the driver door.
So what with taking the wrong bank card that was my run of 3 unlucky things yesterday, do I count Mr TS's bad back too, I hadn't been planning to do the trip on my own. Hoped one of us would drive there the other would drive back.
Still DD2's uni house this year is fantastic, I hope they keep it as clean as it is now. The landlord is actually going round to speak to them tomorrow evening. :rotfl:
DD2's bedroom is lovely and light and huge for a uni house. :TWhen The Fun Stops Stop0 -

"The voucher you are trying to use has been used in ASDA and Tesco can not accept vouchers that have been used in ASDA, The reason for this is that "kim" from ASDA has told TESCO that ASDA will not PAYOUT to TESCO if the APG voucher has been redeem in a ASDA store." Squeak from Trout that using a APG in ASDA then in OUR Tesco store is fraud.
My reply was, Please can you tell me in TESCO T&C that it says you can not use the voucher in ASDA and then TESCO. I also said your speaking a load of rubbish and you know it. I asked for proof and he said its in the office and that's closed today.
This store has tired to dodge every voucher that is used. To the point that they want to destroy the receipt so today when the SV said I need to write on it. My reply was.. KEEP IT. She was not expecting that. I did however get my first transaction all ok.. the above was on the second and when I asked her if she could do the check quicker she got in a strop and walked away
Contacted customer support this morning about this and they contacted the store and have told them not to feed the customer with rubbish and told them that we do not collect the money from asda and that they are to take the vouchers and have even agreed that you ARE allowed to use it at ASDA and then goto the Tesco store to spend it.
I asked the guy to contact me back but he said look at me as the store.. I am telling you that you can you the voucher in store. I will sort it today and that customers in the future will also have no issues until the end of the trial period.
So, I phoned the store 2 hours later and was told you can spend what you want as long as you provide us with the receipt and we will make a little mark at the top. I have no issue with that.
Still no luck finding out who is Kim

I, yet again we dont know how lucky we are the majority of the time
I was in town earlier and noticed a middle aged couple open one of those cigarette butt things on a pub wall and rake through it till they found a couple of good ones
But as you say, David. we don't know how lucky we are.

I make sure my cigarette end has been soaked in water before I dispose of it. They (the fag pickets) are not getting anything from me
mainly to ensure that young people couldn't say they got their cigs from me!!
Given that at work we have to smoke on the path outside we are often approached with requests for a fag... generally 'i don't have any on me', but there is the odd one...............0 -
