Boiler Cover or Extended Homa and Contents?

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place (don't think I have) and if this question has been asked before (it almost certainly will).

It's time to get the boiler insurance renewed and some people have advised me to simply extend the home and contents insurance to include "emergencies" as that will cover lots of other things, like the fuse box blowing up, not just the boiler. Would anyone on here have any views?

One caveat is that "emergency" cover includes things like the central heating breaking down in the winter (when it's cold), not in summer (when it's warm). I've checked carefully and some policies cover "loss of hot water" which would sure then also cover my heating at any time of year ('cos it comes from a combi boiler). Also, emergency cover starts straight away, boiler cover usually takes 14-30 days to start from the first payment.

Thanks in advance for all advice given.
