Has anyone had one of these? On top of the overpayment from last year I'm now being penalised £1300
My dad has just died, my mum is all over the place, my anxiety is through the roof.....
If I ring them can I make part payments? I only get ESA and DLA, so can't afford much.
I've not even got round to arranging my overpayment payments yet.
Help!

What is the reason for the penalty, did you declare false information or fail to notify a change in circumstances?0

Here is a leaflet to help you.
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/leaflets/wtc7.pdf
You will have received a letter telling you how to ask for a reconsideration. CAB could help you put a letter together citing your reasons /illness/death of father etc etc
You can make a repayment plan for both the overpayments and the penalty.0 -

We were in a similar position, 2 years ago - I had misjudged / underestimated our income by less than £1000 - and was threatened with a summons if we didn't pay back ALL of the WTC that we had received in the 9 months that we claimed for (over £1700 received) - this was HMRC throwing its weight around unnecessarily - I had been onto my MP who had asked HMRC to hold fire until all of the facts were known - but, to save "worry" - I paid back in full but was still "fined" £200 !!
