Cash Machine Said Card Not Recognised....

Options
Hi all.

I've just been to a cash machine to get some money out. Bobbed in my HSBC debit card and the computer said "card not recognised, contact your bank". I thought that's strange, so wiped the card down and put it in again to get the same message. Tried once more and it came up with the same message.

So I called HSBC and the call was answered in a different country. Anyway, I explained the scenario to him and he told me that no one from HSBC had called me. I don't think he quite understood what I had told him, bless him.

I will nip into the HSBC bank when I am in town on Monday to try and get it sorted. In the mean time, should I be worried? I've never had this issues before and it's stressing me out a bit. The debit card is still in date and I have money in the account, so it's not like I have reached my overdraft limit.

Thanks for reading and any help you might be able to give.

I get this all the time, it will work on some and not others, it's a pain in the backside.

The issue is it's unable to read the card at all so the machine doesn't know where to connect to.

I'm with HSBC, my last card stopped working totally in any machines and my new one can be temperamental at times.

I'd just phone them now and request a new card. Tell them your old one is damaged. Thats all they'll do in the branch on Monday anyway.
