i know you guys are all amazing so i thought i would come and ask for some help - also posting on the renting board
a friend lives in a privately rented 3 story property. yesterday in the rain the ceiling started dripping it is now so bad that the bedrooms are uninhabitable and it is dripping through the second floor. the rain is on and off here but it is all coming straight through the ceiling.
the letting agents sent someone over to look at it they put a small humidifier down and said that they would be back to sort it at some point
is there any time limit for this to be fixed? is there anything we can say to make them do it faster? what is the best thing to get this done as it is just getting wetter and wetter inside the house

If it was my property, I would expect the agent to inform me, then perhaps a buildings claim may ensue.
Some LL have cover to rehome the tenants in emergencies.0 -

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

Could you maybe contact shelter and ask for advice? They might have some contacts or info on where to go from here.0

OP suggest you pop over to the House Buying Renting and Selling board, probably get some more specific advice.
Does your friend know who the LL is - if so suggest s/he contacts LL directly.
Hope your friend gets this sorted asap.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

On Monday morning get environmental health in who can decide whther the house can be lived in or not.
And mean-time WRITE (not text or e-mail) a letter to the Ea and to the address for the serving of notices listing all the problems, what has been done or not done by the EA, the damage to the LLs fitures and fitting and to their own stuff.
Hand-deliver to the EA with photos and post to the address for the serving of notices first class from 2 post offices with free certificates of posting.
The EA probably need tiem to get the LL's approval for work
Hpow much is this - a few drips that can be dealt with by moving furniture or steady ingress whenever it rains?
If the latter, they need to go in tomorrow and embaress the EA by explaining the situation in fornt of other cstomers and demand alternative accomodation until the roof is fixed. Take the kids and refuse to move.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
