No it just has a recovery disk. Finally got back into the laptop so now following the first link you sent to try so hopefully this will sort it!
I do now have another issue....the internet search bar seems to be at the bottom of the screen, no major issue but can it be moved back to the top?
Thanks nifty for all your help so far
At the bottom of the Browser?
Just have patience with the Updates.0 -
Yeah search bar seems to be at the bottom of the browser rather than top!
Have got it started on updates again so will leave it doing it overnight and then hopefully some kind of magic will happen. Then I anticipate spending all day tomorrow downloading 8.1 and then finally getting to try out the laptop properly!!0 -
Windows 8/8.1 has two separate versions of Internet Explorer. The old style one is still available on the desktop, but I suspect you're in the full-screen version that's part of the 'Metro' interface in Windows 8, which has the address bar etc. at the bottom.Yeah search bar seems to be at the bottom of the browser rather than top!
Best bet is to make sure Internet Explorer is pinned to the Taskbar, and use that version. (If not, then go to the Start screen, right click on the Internet Explorer icon and select Pin to Taskbar). Then use the traditional version of IE in the Desktop. Much easier!
(Or use Firefox/ Chrome/ etc.)0 -
One thing that may work for you is to get the KB number of the larger updates and manually download them from Microsoft's website. Then install them from there.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0
