Scottish Power Incompetence

I changed supplier over twelve months ago and keep getting bills including letters from debt collection agencies. I have actually received a letter of apology from their customer services (joke) with a £10 credit as a gesture.
Despite e-mails, phone calls, I even spoke to someone who claimed to be a manager, but I suspect he wasn't, who guaranteed that the problem would be resolved and call back. Still waiting after several weeks!
I read a story where someone had a similar problem and eventually sued his supplier and was awarded damages.
Has anyone any suggestions where I go next. I received another final demand today.
