holiday stress

Myself and family are going on holiday in a few days. I've been really excited about it but the last few days I've been making myself ill with stress, not flown in ten years, worried ill remember everything, worried it's going to be too hot for my youngest etc. Basically stressing about everything. It's my first holiday abroad in years as we normally holiday in Cornwall every year. Does anyone else feel like this any tips? Thanks x
I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

Remember your passports, tickets, insurance details, credit cards and money. Anything you forget you can do without or buy.
Your youngest will be fine (I expect they have children where you are going) Plenty of sunscreen (taken or bought lol) and cover up, plenty of bottled water.
Have a great time, oh.... where are you going?0 -
I agree with the above poster about checking you have the essentials.
Make sure you have all important telephone numbers to hand (insurance claims, lost credit cards etc).
Do you all have EHIC cards?
Remember chargers for mobiles, DS, ipod etc.
If you can manage the weight, I'd buy sun cream here as you don't know how long the stuff abroad has been knocking about. And I've seen some kept in full sun - not good.
We always ring our c/c provider to let them know we'll be abroad.
Check travel times to airport/any possible delays or road works.
Make sure your kids have enough to keep them occupied at the airport & flight
Finally - calm down & have a great holiday.0 -
I think its quite normal to get stressed before a holiday but its a great feeling when you arrive and can just chill.
Have a great time and treasure your time away. It will fly by!0 -
DH and I always repeat the old Shirley Valentine mantra 'Passports, Tickets, Money' as we leave. I suppose Passports includes other papers like EHIC and Insurance. beyond that you can cope with anything!
Remember to take stuff for yourself like books/Kindle and magazines and some paper stuff (nice body lotion and shower gel). We like treats for the plane too like crisps and sweets (exorbitantly expensive on planes).
Have a great time!0 -
I used this a few years ago. Sit there and make your list up and print it off.
You then have a handy checklist to ensure you have packed everything !

I've got a list that I use every holiday, I just cross off everything as I pack. Then I've got a separate bag for passports, visas, travel insurance, cash, phone .... I stick all travel documents in a clear plastic wallet for easy access. Although I think I've got it down to perfection now, I still panic as soon as I've booked my holiday & sometimes right up until I arrive at the airport. Enjoy your trip!0

I don't get worried about packing. As long as I have the essentials (passport, booking confirmations, credit cards) then I can live without everything else or buy them. There's no point in getting stressed about packing the right number of pants.
I also like getting to the airport as soon as possible so that I can relax in the bar and get something to eat rather than be worried about the traffic or trains getting there in time. For a recent 10pm flight from Heathrow I was at the airport for 4pm to avoid the rush hour on the M25.0 -
To be honest these days it tends to be passport, phone, money. In most cases tickets arent necessary as either the boarding pass is on your phone or the airport will print them anyway.
Cant remember the last time I didnt get a confirmation email of the itinerary etc so again thats all on the phone too. I used to print off two copies of everything to avoid risking losing something or a battery dying etc but since starting to fly almost monthly I stopped and saved the trees instead.
That said, I am still worried the night before about oversleeping (most my flights are business and so early morning) or having some form of travel problem getting to the airport. As soon as I walk through the airport doors I am fine.0 -
I am lucky enough to get away by air three or four times a year but when it comes to the final few days I get that "is it worth it" feeling. I have lists I always use, keep toiletries and medicines already packed etc but it is the cleaning the house, changing the bed ,worrying about security ........Absolutely pathetic!
Thankfully, once I lock the front door I completely forget all the hassle and just love my holidays:)0 -

I can't remember the last time I had an actual airline ticket but I always like to have all of my printed confirmations for flights, hotels, parking, transfers etc printed and kept in a folder so that they are all in one place and are easy to find. As I book the components of a trip I print off the confirmations as soon as I get them and put them straight into my "trip folder". Maybe I could do without the dead trees but it has become something of a habit.
I will also have a copy of everything on my phone but there's something reassuring about having the printouts. I've also started using the TripCase app which is great from gathering all of your bookings into a single itinerary.0
