Hi
My partners are currently living with me and my partners are retired, currently I am paying £1200.00 annually for council could I get a reduction in council because my parents are retired?
I need speak to the council and they said they might be able to lower the council tax then i had to go so i couldn't discuss it further with them.
Thanks

if your parents have moved in with you, the council tax liability is still yours.
if you previously lived alone, you would lose the 25% single person discount.
why would you get a discount because your parents are retired?

I thought i might be able to get a discount on the premium no harm in asking :T0 -
We pensioners have to pay, just like everyone else (full or 75% if alone), unless we are on benefits.0

There used to be something called Second Adult Rebate where you could have got upto 25% off if non deps with low income resided with you. However most Local Authorities scrapped this last year. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

The Government 'localised' Council Tax Support meaning they scrapped the national scheme and each local authority had to create their own local scheme. The problem was before the Government gave 100% subsidy for any Council Tax given so local authorities didn't lose out. When the Government localised the scheme they only gave 90% subsidy. The only conditions were pensioners and vulnerable adults wouldn't be any worse off. So pensioners can claim Second Adult Rebate still and still get 100% reduction. This means each local authority can award different amounts of Council Tax support. The fewer pensioners and vulnerable adults the more benefit they can give to everyone else. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
