Another 'moving house' question
We are frequently told to inform utility companies we are moving, but some of them don't seem to want advance notice.
British Gas website spells it out - don't tell us until AFTER you've moved. Fine, we know where we stand.
I've just been on the E-on site to tell them we're moving (completion date next week) but, obviously, I couldn't give a final reading. I half expected to be stopped when I entered a future date, but I was allowed to fill in all the details including the completion date. It then thanked me "for telling us you've moved". So now I'm unsure whether I've (male chicken)-ed up the system...
It would help if all the companies were as clear about it as British Gas.

Hi WatlingA5
Don't worry, you've not caused a problem. We understand the pressures of moving home and are happy to accept advance notice. Customers can let us know up to 30 days in advance of a move.
Where advance notice is received, the account will go into pending ready for meter readings once the move completes.
If you can let us have your final readings within 3 days of the date you advised, we'll issue an accurate final bill. Where we don't receive readings, we'll close to estimates.
Where accounts close to estimates, any credit balance will be held until accurate readings are received or the customer contacts us.
That's a poor message we sent you. Makes it sound as though you've already moved so can understand your concern. I'll feedback on this.
Sorry for the confusion and best wishes for the move. Hope it goes smoothly.

Malc - We moved yesterday and only had time to read the meters in between unloading the car, telling the team where stuff was going, etc.
This morning, when I went to submit final readings, I found an email, timed 04.49 yesterday, saying my bill was ready and could be read on line. The bill (marked account closed) says it is based on readings I provided on August 14.
Since the account HAS been closed how do I submit my up-to-date readings and get the bill corrected before the direct debit is collected on September 9?0 -
Hi WatlingA5
Hope the move wasn't too bad.
To be honest, without looking at your account, not sure why we issued a final bill yesterday.
Not to worry, this can soon be sorted although you'll need to contact us with your closing readings. It's not something you'll be able to do online now.
If you call the number on the bill, we'll put this right. Alternatively, if you drop an email with the details to the address in my Profile, I'll be happy to sort it out for you.
Good luck for the future in your new home.
