PPI claim with Barclaycard

Hi, I recently made a claim against Barclaycard for miss selling PPI to me on a credit card. They have agreed that they miss sold the PPI to me and have made an offer of compensation. The PPI was originally sold to me in 1995 and the card was in use until 2008. The offer is very low as Barclaycard claim that they do not need to keep records for longer than 6 years and therefore have calculated the amount of PPI paid from 2002 to 2008 and then used that as an average over the years from 1995 to 2002. In my case the card was used heavily between 1995 and 2001 as until that point it was my only credit card, after that I had a different card which I used rather than the Barclaycard. I don't have the statements from that period, but, do know that I should be entitled to a lot more than their offer. How do I get Barclaycard to look at my account from 1995 to 2001? Surely they will have this data on their system somewhere? Has anyone else had this situation?

That is correct.therefore have calculated the amount of PPI paid from 2002 to 2008 and then used that as an average over the years from 1995 to 2002.
That is a fair representation. it could lead to less being paid out than what was actually paid but it could lead to more. However, there is no evidence and the FCA recommend averaging as a fair outcome.
Actually, you are not entitled to anything. The requirement is to refund what was proven you paid with an expectation that where proof does not exist, that a fair and reasonable view is taken based on records that do exist.I don't have the statements from that period, but, do know that I should be entitled to a lot more than their offer. How do I get Barclaycard to look at my account from 1995 to 2001?
you cant. If they have no statements and you have no statements then you cannot prove you paid anything.Surely they will have this data on their system somewhere?
No. Data is purged in line with the data protection act.
yes and Barclays are responding fairly and in line with expectations.Has anyone else had this situation?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I would just like to say, from experience, that Barclaycard sometimes do hold records. I opened my card in 1993 and months ago, got sent a large bundle of information from them follwoing on from my ppi claim last year.
My advice is to persevere with it. If you want to pm, I have got an email address that I used.0 -
Barclaycard hold records longer than 6 years but they retain statements for 6 years.
If you dont believe them then spend £10 and do a data subject access request.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
