Mums sofas falling apart

I wonder of anyone can help me. My mum bought a sofa from Furniture Village 8 years ago and it was sold to her as 100% leather, but the seats have started to peal. She was told by Furniture Village that the seats were coated to ensure the leather would last. The leather underneath seems to be OK, but the peeling of the coating is upsetting her as she cannot afford to buy a new one. She has complained to Furniture Village, but they haven't called her back. I'm unsure if she can take it any further, as the sofa is still OK to sit on. Has anyone got any ideas?

Probably not a lot you can do here as most items covered via a warranty are for a set period of time and Sofa's as far as I am aware may have a 5-10 year one but this is for the frame only in most of the cases.


Check on the details from point of purchase if you still have them if not then either a new one is required or put up with it.

A lot of things can be fixed by a qualified leather technician.

8 years ago they wont touch it now. The leather you refer to underneath isn't leather. Read this thread...

Im in the same position, only 6yrs down the line. Im going to write to them and take it from there.

Good luck with that then as said they probably cover frames only so it will e a waste time I feel for you to even bother telling them.


I may be surprised but somehow I very much doubt it.

Sorry if you think I am looking for business - actually I am not. I am a consultant and run a training company so know a lot about leather and its durability and usage. We just want to help people who are having problems - there is much that can be done if people are having problems and cannot get any satisfaction with the stores or are out of any claim time.
We are here to advise people free of charge about problems they are having and the solutions available.

That is pimping when your signature says what you know and your homepage sells what you do.

You wouldn't be pimping if you didn't have these things - many of us are experts in our working field and you don't see us linking to our site and signing off as an expert.

Not the first time for you either.
