Really confused about CPP claim

Like many others, I was wary of CPP and did nothing when the original letter came in. My husband had died, I'd put my house on the market, and dropped the letter into my 'hoarding' file to look at when my life became clearer - then I forgot about it! I came across the correspondence last month and was about to throw it out when I remembered I'd read about it on this site. I contacted CPP to advise them I'd moved home and hadn't received a form. They quickly sent me another. Stupidly, I thought there would be more information on the correspondence, but not so - maybe I'm not reading it properly. I've got into the habit of glancing instead of reading.

So here is where my difficulty lies. Despite the guidelines on this site, I don't know how to complete the form.

The letter says I bought a card protection through them, a bank or card issuer etc. What I'm not sure about is I don't know whether I bought it from Halifax BOS or, more recently, through Marks & Spencer? I dunno!

I don't know which of these statements applies:
... protection cover because you thought it covered you for thousands of pounds worth of unauthorised transactions if your card was lost or stolen ( ...if that was the case I don't know the amount I would have been covered for).
... thought it covered you for unauthorised transactions that occurred before you informed CPP that a card was lost or stolen ( ...I don't know the amount of unauthorised transations I would have been covered for).

I feel like writing in the form, "You told me I may have been mis-sold a Card Protection Policy (you bunch of rotters), so that's why I'm submitting a claim - please send me what I'm due." but I know that won't get me anywhere.

I also feel like putting the form in the bin, because it's become too hard for my brain to deal with. I don't know if I'd be owed thousands, or hundreds because there are no guidelines to gauge what I paid - though I'll bet it won't be very much.

Has anyone else been in this situation and, if so, would they please offer some helpful advice?

Hi there, sorry to hear of your loss, a very difficult time with so much to attend to. I had a similar letter from CCP. We had taken out some insurance with them when we opened an account at the Nationwide. As we were only looking at a refund of of about £70 I just took a chance and filed the form in myself quoting word for word what they had written and they paid up! Hope this helps

Just fill in the form choosing the most appropriate of the examples of mis-selling which are listed on the rear of it. CPP have written to you, so they already know the circumstances. This is not like a PPI complaint where you have to convince the Bank you were mis-sold.

Best get a move on, though, as the final closing date for submissions is the end of August.
  • Thanks so much to you both for your guidance and support on this wee worry, and for your sympathy, Flora48. I don't expect there will be a big return, but I'm going to go ahead with the claim anyway - nothing ventured, nothing gained. Cheers.
