uPVC double glazing - Who is best?

is triple glazing really any better than double glazing
I would say normally triple glazing should be better than double and should have a higher U value. It is also usually more expensive buy Youngers are doing this deal where you get triple instead of double. My issue with this is as in last post, they use 28mm units rather than 36 or 40 mm. Even so I think there would have to be some benefits and if cost is similar then why not?I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p0 -
We used a company called supersealni who are based in Antrim to replace all our windows and doors last year with a rated double glazing units.
They done a very tidy job and were cheaper than some of the others we'd received quotes from.0 -
Tried McIlhattons for a price. Found salesman very pushy, ie "need to sign up now to get these prices" sort of thing. Also bad mouths other companies. Maybe they do a good enough job but they arent my cup of tea
Horse for courses as they say. Never found that in our dealings and they have been excellent in follow up when we had a problem with the patio doors a couple of years down the line

Thanks Shell, interested in more info on the problems Younger had.. They are probably my favourite at the minute. As I said earlier McIlhattons got blown out for being too pushy. Turkingtons came out, measured up, gave me a price, told me they would call back in few days for a decision... 3 weeks later I've heard nothing. Derryork, although local company who just did next door house cant seem to be bothered. They came and measured up and gave me a price( most expensive of the lot), left a couple of samples and havent come back, again about 3 weeks. I am trying Betterhomes and another local company but at this point Younger is ahead. They have told me they have A rated windows and with the triple glazing can achieve U rating of 1.0. My concern is that they use standard 28mm units for their triple glazing. 28mm is the norm for double. Usually triple is either 36 mm or 40 mm. What they do is use 3 panes of 4mm glass, centre pane toughened, with 2x 8mm spaces with warm edge spacers
Issues with younger homes seems to have been the fitting. One said he could see right outside between the window and the doorframe or wall. Also issues with something else not fitting etc. Poor attitude from the fitters when they came to fix it. But am sure it's like anything else, it all depends on who you get.
Would any of the other companies price match?0 -

Decided against Youngers. Word is that fitting and after sales not good, as you said. Betterhomes cant seem to be bothered either. Been waiting over 2 weeks for a response. Had called a salesman who was to get back to me but didnt. Then called the main office and gave in my sizes for a price. Still waiting. Strange in this business that no one has any push to get work. Anyway got someone lined up, not a big company but a well recommended guy who fits good windows and good price. Will update with more info if I go aheadI started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p0 -
That wasn't composite. A composite is sprayed metal, foam in between, with a fire rating and is a very good quality strong door. The pvc with foam between is a simple panel that can be shoulder charged through. I do this for a living (supplying and installing them I mean) and there is a BIG difference between the two.0

I'#d avoid Turkingtons. They have a reputation for being ruthlessly tight when it comes to after sales service.0

Really surprised at Betterhomes not chasing you for business, they are usually hot to trot (and take your money). Do a good, tidy job too. Complete windows in Portrush haven't mentioned, I could recommend them from experience. Small company and good to work with. http://completewindows.co.uk/home/3158280
