I know this question is subjective and every installation company is bound to have had a few problems. But anyone recommend a Window/door installer? I live in County derry/londonderry but that isnt really a concern as most companies cover the full country anyway. Had just a couple of prices from small local company Derryork and larger company Turkington. Would appreciate some feed back form satisfied or unsatisfied customers.

I've used Mchilhatton in Ballymoney Great customer service and after service. Oh and the prices aren't too bad

We've always had super service from Betterhomes in Dargen, Belfast. They have fitter windows and doors in two houses for us, and we were well pleased with the work.

I'll second Betterhomes. Very tidy fitters as well

30yrs ago i worked for Everest and we had to go into peoples houses and say that we may be a bit more expensive than some but we were much better. And at the time we all believed what we were saying, 'cos Everest had told us how much better they were.

Thank you for all answers so far. I've been getting a few prices and most seem to be reasonably close. But what is hard to work out is the products they sell. The energy ratings and security features seem to vary a lot and its hard to know exactly who offers the best. For example I was looking for doors along with the windows. One guy recommended composite front door, which looks more like real wood than plastic. He showed me a sample which had foam filling between to plastic outer layers. But later I saw a video online that said these are the worst tpe of door and easily broken into. Really hard to decide where to go to for the best information

Tried McIlhattons for a price. Found salesman very pushy, ie "need to sign up now to get these prices" sort of thing. Also bad mouths other companies. Maybe they do a good enough job but they arent my cup of tea

Anyone tried Younger Homes Windows, Maghera? They are doing a deal where you get triple glazing for same price as double. But the triple glazing unit is still only 28mm thick, same as most double glazing. not sure if there is any value in doing this as most triple glazing is at least 36mm - 40 mm.

  • I have heard two report of leaking windows from younger homes and poor aftercare. U need to be getting u values to see if you are really getting triple glazed quality windows.

Heard derryork are very competitive but haven't heard either way about quality etc.

Toners in draperstown also supposed to be competitive.

Keen to hear how you get on. I will be at that stage in a few months.

Thanks Shell, interested in more info on the problems Younger had.. They are probably my favourite at the minute. As I said earlier McIlhattons got blown out for being too pushy. Turkingtons came out, measured up, gave me a price, told me they would call back in few days for a decision... 3 weeks later I've heard nothing. Derryork, although local company who just did next door house cant seem to be bothered. They came and measured up and gave me a price( most expensive of the lot), left a couple of samples and havent come back, again about 3 weeks. I am trying Betterhomes and another local company but at this point Younger is ahead. They have told me they have A rated windows and with the triple glazing can achieve U rating of 1.0. My concern is that they use standard 28mm units for their triple glazing. 28mm is the norm for double. Usually triple is either 36 mm or 40 mm. What they do is use 3 panes of 4mm glass, centre pane toughened, with 2x 8mm spaces with warm edge spacers
