We have a bumper crop of garlic ready for harvest, more than we will be able to use or give away.
Anyone have any suggestions/ideas for preserving it long term?
Thanks.

Dig it up, keep the stems attached, let it dry outside in the sun for a couple of days to a week, then hang it up in an airy shed or garage, preferably dark and cool. You can tie the leaves to a string, or plat them to make their own string.
It should last a good few months, depending on variety. But, check regularly and, if any goes soft or mouldy, remove it quickly before the rot spreads.0 -
It does keep well as said. You can keep it in stockings
pop a bulb in tie a knot, pop another in tie a knot and so on. The plat looks prettier I grant you
but the stockings work as well, when you want one just cut off below a knot.
I did note that you would not have much to do with stockings btw

I keep mine in hanging ikea net bags, for children, they hang in a cool dark insulated shed. I will be using the fattest cloves for growing and towards the end of the keeping season then I preserve in two ways. Slice and dehydrate the slices or whiz in a processor with lots of olive oil and then freeze so it is ready to use0

What happens if you just freeze them whole?
I fry then freeze onions but have never had any surplus garlic that couldn't just be left in a take away container in the fridge.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
