Right with new car and finance
Hi,
I have been trying to find the very best deal for a new car. The price was originally 264 for the car I wanted. Today one of them said 230 so I thought I would say yes. I had asked a couple of others who said they couldn't beat that. I had emailed another firm but they never got back to me. So put deposit down today for 200 then other said company emails back saying they can do it for 3 pounds a month less. Now on it's own not that much 3 * 36 is 108 pounds. So I got in touch with original company to say this and what could they do. They said there was nothing they could do as finance is all setup, car is ordered etc.
At this point in time I haven't signed anything at all. So in my eyes I haven't as of yet in law agreed. Is it law they must allow me to get my deposit back and go to other dealer or not?
Anyone able to help. I do feel guilty doing it as I am normally true to my word. I did ask other dealer to match but said they couldn't/wouldn't. Also for me other dealer is 36 miles away one that offered better offer is 5 miles away so much easier for me and person who has to drive me there to pick it up. So it's going to cost a bit for wife to do 72 mile round trip plus the 36 miles I will add to car driving it up to where I live.
Many Thanks for advice in advance

nope you lose your deposit if you cancel 200 deposit isn't that much but it out weighs the £108 saving so either go ahead or cancel at your loss0
-
So is Arnold Clark the other dealer telling me lies saying it's ok to cancel?0
-
The purpose of a deposit is to confirm the agreement of a contract-and a verbal contract has exactly the same status as a written one, albeit harder to prove. So if you then break the contract, you lose the deposit (at the very least).
What did you think the purpose of paying the deposit otherwise was?
The other dealer wants the business instead, so of course he will tell you whatever you want to hear.
However, the first dealer would hardly have ordered the vehicle without you completing some paperwork? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Well they have ordered the car they say but I haven't done any paper work.0
-
Anyone else any ideas on this?0

why would you do any paperwork? sounds like you made the agreement online / over the phone - so no need for paperwork as it can all be done electronically / verbally.0

You can have an electronic signature hence the act but there is no electronic signature here.
I am going to ring and see if they will just agree to match otherwise will get a little bit nastier with them.
Legal Perspective says it's possible

Why do you want to deal with Arnold Clark? Not got a good reputation on here and elsewhere.
Is the other dealer, who you have paid the deposit to, the actual dealer for the brand of car you are looking at. If so, IMO you will get a better deal from them, instead of AC. The service I got from Arnold Clark was shocking, to say the least, selling me a death trap.
this thread is about AC

I would stick with the one you have paid your deposit to, You may be £108 a year worse off, but can sleep at night ! lol0
