60 mile trip to Heathrow 4 people - anything cheaper than train?

Do you know anyone with a Zafira? I drive one and get 4 people and their luggage in regularly.

Parking becomes a bit dear because we are away for 2.5 weeks
But I think you are right, if we manage to get two friends willing to drive us, the overall petrol cost will be much less than the train, right?
We will have to cost in a good pair of awesome presents for the volunteer drivers!

The petrol for 2 cars will be less than £185 yes. There may be far cheaper public transport options but we don't know where exactly you are travelling from so we are all stabbing in the dark!

If you google your town Heathrow taxi you will get a price. For instance from Bedford a search shows taxis at £65.

I much prefer to be driven and collected than using my own car. It saves all of the hassle of getting to and from long term parking on buses. Another advantage is that any missed flights will be covered by your travel insurance as long as a sensible time has been allowed for the journeys but some exclude private cars.

Assuming travel from Bedford (which is £45.50 each so £182 total via Heathrow Express).

The four of you could get a groupsave return to London St Pancras at £88.20 for the 4 of you if off peak (http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/BDM/London/111014/1400/dep/291014/1900/dep) and then get the tube to Heathrow which is £5 each peak each way or £3 each off peak with Oyster.

That' could be as low as £112.20 for the 4 of you!

Hi All,
We live in a small town so none of the major coach routes pass near, I've looked and it would just over complicate the trip with all the changes and waiting around. (I try to find a balance between saving money and just making things difficult for myself).
As suggested by a couple of you, it's true, National Rail just defaults to Heathrow Express and it'd be quite a bit cheaper to take the tube.
Most convenient and cheap option will still be taking 2 cars (taxi is quite more expensive when we ask for a big one) if we manage to secure two volunteers. Otherwise, if we only have one driver, we can do a combination of car (taking as much luggage as possible) and train/tube combination - which becomes much easier without luggage to look after! And then just split costs...
It'd be nice to have a friend with a really big car!!!
Thanks to everyone, I think I've got all the info and I've looked at all the possibilities now so I'm sure I'm making a very well informed decision.

If you have a volunteer driver, just hire a large estate car for 24 hours. It shoudldn't cost much more (approx £65 plus fuel each day) than your other options and it will be much less stressful
