Credit rating rebuilding junk mail

Hi,
For the last year or more I have been receiving fairly regular junk mail from a few credit card companies offering me cards to rebuild my credit rating at approx 40% interest.

I finally decided I might as well use the 30 day free opportunity to check my credit rating on checkmyfile.com and my ratings are indicated as 817 on Callcredit and 824 on Equifax. All I can see is one late payment about 4 years ago, when I guess I must have exceeded my overdraft limit for a month.

My question is, do I need to worry about being profiled somewhere as a poor credit person, or have the companies sending me the junk mail just got the wrong end of the stick somehow? I share a house with three other people and they don't seem to get these letters as junk mail, so I seem to have been singled out somehow.

Cheers for any advice.

The companies sending it will have no idea at all about your finances at all. They are just blanket spamming every email address on their internal mailing lists.

No, don't be worried - ask them not to send you junkmail though. I used to get flooded by Blackhorse and it appeared to be just that I was getting it because I'd had a Lloyds account previously.

By the way, you do not have a credit score no matter what Callcredit and Equifax tell you (Experian will also try to tell you the same) so don't pay any attention to these 'scores'.
  • Cheers - I read the sections on credit scores elsewhere on this site before I posted, was just wondering why it was just me that was getting the junk mail..
Must remember to cancel checkmyfile before my free month expires..
