It is not in the Jobcentre's remit to mention them, it is up to the customers to find out. Some individuals may be more helpful than others, but it is not their job to find the extra help your father needs, other than provide a Disabilities Advisor. (have you spoken to the Disabilities Advisor?).

They are required under the Equalities act to make reasonable provision for the disabled.
This does _not_ only include those that ask for help.

Right so what you're basically saying is my father can 'clearly work' and you don't see why the tax payer should continue to fund him? Have you actually had the privilege of meeting my father to make such comments like that?

That is such a nice attitude speaking like that about someone who is having difficulty finding work and is getting scant help from the Job centre with literacy and numeracy problems and who has health issues with diabetes and stress caused by the Job centre's neglect.

I understand your frustrations and those of your father too. However, if he is serious about finding work, or wanting to, then I would suggest a basic literacy and numeracy course which will certainly help.

I have not met your father and I have a huge degree of sympathy for those who are on benefits and truly need them. If your father is unable to work due to ill health, and not just mild learning difficulties then his GP will be able to help.

Unfortunately, the job center are right in their approach imo by requiring him to actively seek work. They are not under obligation to try to diagnose what your father's requirements are - they can only act on the information provided by him

They certainly are - but from what the OP has said, I'm unsure his father ailments would be covered under the Equalities act. If it does then they do need to make reasonable provision. On the other hand, he also needs to take responsibility too

Its just a shame I'm not a manager in my line of work really as I would find him a job straight away.

Why not speak to your manager and ask them for help?

Have you checked on whether there are adult literacy/numeracy classes available in your borough?

My thoughts exactly. Not being able to read and write appears to be holding your father back from getting a job, so while he is unemployed, surely now is the time for him to do something about it.
