student loan repayments pro-rata of salary

Hi
Just worked out after reading Martin's student loan stuff and reading around that the loan is repayable once the pro-rata salary reaches the threshold not the annual salary. i.e. if for one month you earn a large amount you would repay the loan. This seems unfair!
also seems very unfair that Scottish students don't pay student loans in scotland

That's how PAYE works. But if your annual income is less than the threshold, like income tax, you can claim it back.0

What do you mean by this? Scottish students repay loans in the same way as any other student, through the UK tax system. That may change if we vote for independence, although I seem to recall that we'll continue to use the UK system anyway.0 -

What do I have to pay?
"Eligible Scottish domiciled students studying full-time in Scotland are not required to pay tuition fees if studying for a first degree or equivalent.:0 -

You will need to claim back, but usually its a waste of time unless its a significant amount.

Yes, but that's got nothing to do with repaying loans - Scottish students still take out maintenance loans, and repay them in exactly the same way as you do. The Scottish government has taken a decision not to charge tuition fees, if you have an issue with this take it up with your MP to ask for the same thing to be done in England (or move to Scotland for 3 years then study here).0 -
