backdated working tax credits?

hi everyone! I hope someone can help me with this simple question. My husband and I are both elegible for working tax credit, we have never claimed it before, but the CAB told us that we were on a very low income and should make a claim. Anyway we are both self-employed in a partnership in our business, and were wondering could we start claiming (i mean backdate) from april 2007 as that is when our annual accounts were made. I have applied for the form, so do you think that I would get the payments from april 2007? or should I just give the date to start when I get the form? i would be really grateful if someone could take the time to answer my question.

Many thanks

    Hello,

Your claim will automatically be backdated 3 months from the date the claim is recieved and logged onto the compúter- subject to their being eligibility for the past 3 months (i.e, both of you working etc).

Ps, with all the strikes at royal mail and with how busy TCO are with renewals, I would advise post form back via recorded delivery.

hi thx for the reply, I was told that i could get approx. £40 a week, so does that mean they will give me that £40 from each week from april 2007?
    many thanks
  • I have just gone through this myself.

Was awarded WTC on February 20th 2007.

The backdated payments are NOT made automatically you have to phone and ask for it to be done, which I did at the end of February when my WTC was actually granted.

My 3 months back payment to November 2006 was paid to me TODAY. It has taken nearly 5 months! They have paid me the 3 x the monthly rate.

Whatever you are awarded as a monthly rate, ie £200 per month, is what you will be paid backdated, so 3 x £200. etc.

Don't forget to ask for the back payments as they are NOT given automatically.

No it is NOT done automatically, you must ask for it as soon as the WTC award has been given, see my post above.

Wouldn't want anyone to be misled and miss out.

Their are two reasons why your claim wouldn't automatically backdate 1)You dont have the entitlemenr or 2)You are on IS,JSA(IB) or Pension Credit - which isn't the case here. So im not misleading anyone.

There was NO REASON for my claim NOT to be automatically backdated.

I DO have the entitlement from a job aspect, nothing to do with IS or IB.
