O/S Daily Thread Wednesday 13th August

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Mornin' all :hello: - another dull/dank start to the day. Even had the light on this morning .

TTFTM - :T for starting us of with today's thread. The weather is playing 'funny beggars' where laundry is concerned - it can change while you're switching the flipping machine on :rotfl:. It 'got me' a couple of times over the weekend!
JuliaPenguin - love the idea of 'walk.gif an extra 1000 miles in a year' - what a fabulous challenge!
RosieRed - good to hear that Lyla is recovering from her 'lady op' - it's tough on them at the time, but really IS the best thing to do - especially if she wasn't bought with a view to 'breeding'. Tiny puppies are really cute IF they happen, but then you're left with the problem of finding them homes ........... :undecided.
Julie - lol at your OH in the garden all wrapped up like that ;). :T on your weightloss.

HSbirthdayck.gif for anybody with a birthday today.
HSblinky_ani_bearhugs.gif for all who aren't very well - including furry friends - and all who need one.

Had a good shift in the CS yesterday - fairly steady business for most of the afternoon. We have lovely customers who frequently come in for a 'cuppa and chat' even if they're not buying. Mum's 'bits and bobs of jewellery' have started to sell - she'd have been proud to see them attracting interest like that.

Popped into A$da for a 'mini whoopsie trawl' and to get some elastic bands to sort out Mum's knitting needles. They're now all paired up! Some are completely matching :D - some match in size and length but not in make ;) - and others match in size but not in length :rotfl: - only had to throw five out in total clap.gif! Then I went through all her knitting patterns - taking back the ones of mine that I'd loaned her ;); that then motivated me to 'sort out my own'. So there's a biggish document folder of knitting patterns/books going in today as well :j.

Bumped into my DS1 with his stepson - also on a whoopsie hunt - and managed to 'con' myself a lift home :o.

Plans for today include:
• Have another coffee.gif
• Make our packed lunches.
• Sort out 'my bedhead'.
• Get off to the CS for the afternoon.
• Turkey Sausage with Chinese Style Stir-Fry for evening meal - have taken the sausages out of the freezer and everything else needed is already in the fridge.

Hope everybody has a great OS day :j - speak again later

redruby How is Little Dog getting on? x
LameWolf I didn't realise Mr LW had had his op either, I'm glad he's recovering well x
Julie Well done! :D
dandy-candy Hope you're feeling OK this morning x

I found mites again on a couple of the girls so gave the chicken shed a good clear out – completely emptied it and was a bit too liberal with the mite powder. The girls protested noisily when I dusted them. Everything was white – including me :D I had to strip off as soon as I got back into the house and throw my clothes in the machine. It took me all day to clean them out, I kept getting sent away whenever one of them wanted to lay, lol.

Oh the disappointment when you weigh your harvest of borlotti beans! Straight from the garden, 6lb 13oz. Then you shell them and weigh them again – 2lb 10oz. I felt let down :D There's more waiting to be picked though.

• Morning all,

Sun is trying to come out this morning, but it is much cooler. Both of us slept well last night, and hopefully Himself is out of the pattern of getting up in the night.

Might pop out this morning, and must go round to see DGD2 to take her birthday cards. She is going away at the weekend and therefore will be away for her birthday.

We have the Dog Warden coming this afternoon to take a statement from Himself, because he was attacked for the second time by one of the dogs from next door. This dog scales the fence if she can hear us in the garden and is quite angry. I was really worried about him when this happened on Thursday because he seemed to be in shock. She didn't bite him, but the owner had to come over the fence and grab the dog by the scruff of the neck because she didn't take notice when he shouted.

This is the second time it has happened, and they have already had a warning letter from the Dog Warden. They now have 4 dogs and the 2 adult ones are always escaping and head butting the fence, and breaking it down.

The Dog Warden advised us to log the incidence with the police, but evidently they can't do anything about it. It makes us wonder when two 70 year old people can't go out into their own garden for fear of being attacked.

I don't blame the dogs, but the owners have absolutely no control over them, and to be honest don't seem very bothered either.

dand-candy, I know it is easy to say, but not to do, but try not to worry too much, the GP you spoke to sounds lovely and tried to reassure you. Sending positive vibes to you.

Mrs MH, I think you took the right step in seeing your GP. I don't know anything about melatonin, but if it keeps DS on an even keel then you will be able to cope better. I know how tiring it can be, having seen my own DD when DGS was little (he has dispraxia), but you sound a lovely Mum so be kind to yourself.

Well, I have waffled on this morning, have a good day everyone.

Well, it's not raining - yet! The sun has shown its face a couple of times but there are very dark clouds looming. Only washing is cushions from school and they are on the racks.

Made up a dish of chicken, chorizo, new pots, onion, mushrooms and green beans last night and put them in the oven for a while, it was lovely. There would have been more chicken but one of the bags I lifted from the freezer is fish! Guess what DD is having tonight?

2 training courses today and then back to clearing up the mess at school. Hopefully I will get into a routine of sleep soon, the last 2 nights haven't been good and last night I woke up very cold - had to put socks and a blanket on.

Hugs to you all, take care. XX

Morning all,

Nice sunny day here although there is a slight chill in the air, I had to put socks on last night while watching tv, I think autumn is peeping round the corner :D

Day off today but I need to drop dd off at work and also collect the chest of drawers that I did not get round to yesterday, I will also have a good clean through and get a few washes done.

I still need to go to the PO with a few more parcels, its right next door to a butchers so I will pop my head in and see if they have any offers, I quite fancy a roast tonight, if not it will be tacos as meat is already cooked.

Dandy hugs to you try not to worry too much.

Lily Big hugs xx

Tru Little dog is doing very well, she is up and down the stairs on her three legs and can even jump onto the sofa now :D she is such a brave little terrier !

Have good days all xx

I didn't have a great nights sleep, but I did text my counsellor and she said she can see me at 12.30 today. I'm supposed to view two houses today but I'm not sure whether to go. DH says I should to keep me busy but one at 10.30 this morning is an hours drive each way and I don't know if I can face it.
Thank you for hugs and kind messages. I wish I could talk more openly with my DH but he doesn't really get it and he started to get stressed when he doesn't know what to do. I feel very isolated at the moment so seeing my counsellor will be good as she's known my for 10 years and had many a tearful session with me!
Sorry if my posts are a downer to read, please skip them if you want. I hate being myself at times like this so I'm sure it isn't any fun for anyone else to listen to me!

Morning everyone,

Dandy Hugs, hope that you get good news.

Molly, Hilstep, Lily Hugs.

LW A speedy recovery for Mr LW.

Off to get my hair cut this morning and then into town with DD2, hope that it is not too expensive!

DS gets his A level results tomorrow, I am soooo nervous.
Good luck to everyone else getting exam results.

Have a lovely day everyone.:)

HSchochugs.gif and pray1.gif to you.

You're definitely NOT putting anybody on a downer, dandy-candy - so please don't think that. Just hope your OH can learn to cope with his own stress and realise the need to be more supportive to you when you desperately need his understanding.
• dandy-candy, I know a lot of men find it difficult to cope with illness particularly when it is OH. I know Himself can be the same, but when I was diagnosed he did say to me "please don't shut me out", and I didn't. I called him my Rock, because for a man who doesn't like showing his feelings, he was wonderful.

We all deal with illness in different ways, and if he can't or won't talk to you about it, please talk to us. Most of us on here have experience of illness, some more than others, and you can always be sure of kindness and positive thinking from the lovely people here.

Gentle hugs to you

Much love
