Petrol station aid ideas

I am struggling more and more to fill the car up, as I have a very weak grip as I don't have much strength in my hands.
When I watch american shows they seem to have a way of leaving it filling up and wandering around. Can you get anything like that in the uk or is it against health and saftey or something here?
I just wondered how do other people cope with this, or are there any aids for this sort of thing?

Not without breaking one or a~n~other rule such as wedging a piece of wood that locks the handle there isn't. We used to have the 'mechanical latch' and 'venturi latch' in this country, only HGV's as far as I'm aware still have both device. The 'mechanical latch' was outlawed because of :
- huge quantities of fuel all over the forecourt and the fire risk
- huge quantities of risk associated with vapour recovery on unleaded pumps
- and static leccy potential for ignition of fume and liquid and nutters smoking on the forecourt
The 'mechanical latch' was outlawed 30-40 years ago. To be fair I put close to £90 quid a time in and it takes only a few minutes. Someone might want to correct me if I'm wrong but the 'venturi latch' still works its just the mechanical latch that is disabled, meaning it will still shut off the fuel supply when the tank is full.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. I never realised they'd done away with the little clip they use to have on the pumps.
The only thing i can find confirms what Richie says you're not suppose to lock the trigger. But they show a picture where they've stuck the petrol cap underneath to jam it open, but like Richie says you may be able to make a plastic or wood wedge, so long as you were still sastanding there holding it, you may get away with it.

Most petrol stations will fuel up for you if you put on your hazards, sound you horn, and wave your blue badge at them. I know this works in Sainsburys, Tescos, and a couple of smaller (Murco) stations near me. Staff always more than happy to help

Most places will do it for you if you honk your horn/go to the shop to seek help.0

I rarely drive now and I'm never alone but in the past I have used service call and I still have it.
It's a remote control that activators a alarm in the petrol station that a disabled person needs help, you then wave that it's you needs help.
It cost £10 about seven years ago and all large chains have them installed.0 -
OP arent you a risk if your grip is so weak?can you manipulate the steering wheel properly?
I know i couldnt with the loss of grip in both my hands, but cant drive due to other health issues0 -
I used to find some a bit stiff - I have little hands. On some, I sometimes find it easier to put my hand over the top of the handle, then wrap my fingers round/under to pull up the trigger part, rather that holding it like a gun. This position isn't entirely comfortable, but is usually more long-lasting as a solution than holding the trigger gun-like.0
