    Agreed. It is ridiculous.

However I can beat 13 weeks by quite a margin. I have been waiting around 40 weeks for npower to switch my electricity supply. And it is over 8 weeks since the Ombudsman ruled on my case. Npower however have ignored the Ombudsman's deadline and are still dragging their feet.

I can't wait too I never use SP again. CS is none existence. Long queues on phone, don't reply to emails after they claim it will take 5 working days. I hear switching time will improve later this year. cant wait to stick two fingers up at greedy SP

17 days switching by end of year

Not trying to defend any organization here: the system is broken. The 'gaining supplier' is responsible for producing the meter readings. Less chance for error if you read the meters on the day of the switch and not 5 days before or after. Estimated reads are then reconciled by a third party (The Metering Authority) and passed to your 'old supplier'. 'Old supplier' disagrees with the estimated reads and back around the circle the parties go and so on. Then you get the manually prepared final bill which differs from the opening readings with your new supplier. The transfer of gas may also be delayed if an independent gas transporter is involved. Smart meters should go someway towards resolving these issues but I am not holding my breath. FWiW, my latest switch took about 8 weeks to go through. Electricity within 4 weeks and gas, via an IGT, about 3 to 4 weeks longer.
