Car insurance/Licence renewal
Hi, I'm very new so I hope I'm posting this in the right place!
Basically, I was married a couple of years ago, and haven't driven since I've been married so I haven't changed the name on my licence. I found out yesterday that I'm being given a car in a couple of weeks, so today I sent off my licence to the DVLA so I can drive in my married name and my insurance and the car will all be registered in my married name.
However, today I found out that I'm getting the car this week! Firstly, can I drive without having my licence in possession? If this is possible, and I apply for insurance, can I apply for it in my married name? I just don't want the bother of having to send off documents to change my name with my insurance. I've also heard that insurance is slightly cheaper if you're married, but I don't know how true that is.
I was planning on ringing the DVLA tomorrow and see what can be done, but I've heard good things about this forum and thought maybe someone might have some knowledge on the matter.
Thanks for your time

Technically yes, however to be on the safe side, call the DVLA as planned and the insurance , better to be safe than sorry.0 -
Just make sure its not one of the insurers that insist on having a copy of your licence now... And then cancel it for failing to supply them with a copy.
My current insurer which im still not at ease with. Made silly mistakes.
But they honoured the price. Said i have 28 days to supply a copy of my licence. That changed to 14 days on the paperwork yet within 7 days i had a letter saying they have not received it. I phoned them and they had it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks so much for the replies, you've all made me feel a little better about it. I'll definitely call the DVLA tomorrow and make sure that everything is above board.
Thanks again

Your name is your name, the DVLA nor an insurer can change it. They may ask why names dont match on documents etc but then that is explained by your certificate of marriage.
Similarly there is no issues with driving whilst your license isnt in your possession. If that werent the case then you'd have a month or so everytime you move address when you couldnt drive if you're not able to use the online service for some reason.0
