Immersion heater not working?

Hello,
We have a Heatrae - Pullin 27" Gold dot immersion heater.
We have recently moved home and have no central heating system fitted, only an immersion tank for hot water.
This has stopped working today and is no longer heating any water. We have tried to change the fuse in the switch in case it was something simple, with no luck!
Would anyone please have any ideas of what could have gone wrong, or if there is anything we can try to get it working again? As we do not have the money to get a plumber in to fix it.
Many thanks.

Can I ask if you did anything with it yesterday? Or in fact carried out any kind of work that may have disturbed wiring or switches?
Does it have its own dedicated circuit in your consumer meter? Has the switch tripped or fuse wire blown?
Check out all the controls, tank thermostat etc before calling in a repair man0 -
That model should have a resettable safety cutout - turn off the electricity, remove the cover to the immersion heater, and there should be a button on the thermostat to push in.
If that needs resetting it is a sign the main thermostat has failed. The thermostat can be replaced without draining down the cylinder - it slides into a sealed pocket.
However if the cylinder is a sealed unvented system (i.e. there is no header tank in the loft) then under Building Regulations this must only be worked on by a plumber with a G3 unvented qualification. This is for your safety as if the thermostats aren't working or wired properly a sealed cylinder can explode.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
One of the switches was tripped when we looked at, but we are not 100% that it was the immersion heater, but it is pretty likely to be, as they were all ok beforehand.
We have opened the black circular cover on top of the immersion tank and there seems to be a switch rather than a button, which we have taken a photo of below:
What position should the dial be in?
Thanks again for your help.0 -
thats not a switch it's the temp dial, if it has a re-set it will be a little button next to that dialI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Hello,
I have had another look but can't locate the button. I have took another photo from above. Would the button be in the hole between the two screws below the dial?
I found a manual about this model at http://www.heatraesadia.com/docs/Immersion_-_Issue_3_-_36005868.pdf . It mentions a reset pin, but doesn't include the diagram it mentions being overleaf.0 -
side of the temp dial looks burnt, as does the wiring on that side, I think you probably need a new immersion.0
