Was wondering what price dentists, in Belfast, generally charge for a white filling?

A relative recently had one at a price of £48.

    Check out the info on this page ;

It does state " The charge is 80 per cent of the dentist’s fee". Of course, like any other business, some will take advantage and costs may be much higher.

I believe that white fillings are not recommended for rear teeth, as they don't wear as well as amalgam.

It gives prices there as from £13.28 to £34.85 which is a lot more reasonable than £48.

    My dentist charges £48 too.

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

That's what my dentist always says and I have not as yet plucked up the courage to say it doesn't matter, go ahead and do them anyway. Maybe next time.

Used to be the case, but not really nowadays so long as the cavity is designed for the white filling (You cut the cavity differently than you would if you were filling it with amalgam) and you have the time and skill to do it well (White filling is harder to do right than amalgam)

It's not a good idea usually to have big amalgam fillings replaced with white filling due to the differences in how the cavities are shaped. Small amalgam fillings often change pretty well - but still not a good idea to have it done just for the sake of appearance.

£48 is about half what I charge!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

First visit to a new dentist today (outskirts of Belfast) and although going the NHS route atm, I may go private after the consultation. Have been perusing their price list with bemused interest.

Charges for a tooth coloured filling are £45-£95 privately.

Jeepers reading this thread has given me the answer I needed to know for years now, and also reminded me of the reason I won't go to the dentist

My neighbour and I were talking about this during the week and were wondering how we could find out the cost.
I'm only needing one filling replaced, but have a fear of dentists due to bad experiences.

My neighbour just said she couldn't afford it, and looking here I can't either:eek:

It's a flippin disgrace the cost of dentist needs!

Seriously? You only have one set of teeth (unless you are a small child) and you should invest in them. I don't understand putting off a necessary cost knowing that the problem will only get worse and require further expenditure. People pay 48£ on a coat, a pair of jeans, shoes or a night out but b!tch about it over a necessary medical intervention.
