Accommodation cancelled - alicante - tomorrow!!!

We booked a villa through holidaylettings.co.uk - we fly to Alicante tomorrow. We've just been told the villa is double booked, sorry - so we have nowhere to stay!!! Any ideas what we can do at 24 hours notice? Thanks.

Phone your travel insurance company see if they can sort it

I think I'd prefer to find something myself rather than rely on my travel insurance to find a place for me.

@OP: Did holidaylettings.co.uk not offer any alternative? Haveyou looked for an alternative on their site?

    Hi

Try airbnb.co.uk They have some really great places and you can definitely normally find something at short notice

    All the best

Start by searching holiday lettings again and other companies such as; holiday rentals, homeaway, james villas (they do villa only options), air bnb.

If no joy then search the online travel agents for apartments or hotels instead of villas, not ideal but better than nothing.

    If you're not already sorted, via the usual websites, how about telephoning the few locally based apartment rental agencies such as those on the English pages of the local town hall's tourism office website;
    http://www.alicanteturismo.com/have-a-rest/?lang=en
or the 20 or so apartment complexes at
    http://www.alicanteturismo.com/have-a-rest/?lang=en

They'll still be open for a few hours even allowing for the 1 hour time difference, as most offices in Spain work til 7 or 8pm

And by phoning you'll get an idea if you can trust 'em- they'll possibly even speak English! Just use a credit card rather than debit card for safety

    Good luck

This might be a bit late but...

How can they have just "double booked"?

I'd speak to the owners and explain that they have formed a contract and that by breaking the contract they will be liable for your costs.

They are operating a business transaction and have to meet their contractual obligations.

I'd have told them to either sort it out or accept that you would make 3 phone calls with 3 agencies to find a villa that meets all the relevant factors and would then book the cheapest of those available.

And the owners would be paying any extra costs.
