PPI Claims Department

Like with everyone else, I guess, I get 2 or 3 or even 4 calls per weeks from guys saying they are from the PPI Claims Department but yesterday the call took a twist.
They gave me the details of the loan they believe I have paid PPI on and I went through 5 of their staff as they tried to press the "documentation" onto me.
They told me the bank, the amount, the year I took the loan out and the year I paid it off. I finally got through to them yesterday that I would deal with it myself and then they rang back again this morning.
The guy was almost pleading with me to send me a copy of the contract with the bank and said I was under no obligation to use them but it would give me important information I needed to make the claim myself.
So, does anyone know, what is their angle on this. I refused the "documentation" in case that somehow tied me into using them. I just don't understand what they get from passing me the information, if it doesn't oblige me to use them.
They really do seem desperate.
Any ideas!

The callers are on commissions. They know that if you get the person hooked, they have more a chance of reeling them in later.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Try asking them where they got your personal data from so you can report its unlawful acquisition to the Information Commissioner.0

Thanks,
No doubt they will ring again tomorrow.
I take it I am safe to accept whatever documentation they send without being locked in to use them.

Don't be silly, the only "documentation" they will send will be their application form and contract. You will have to provide details of the Bank, account and loan details yourself. Their sales pitch will be forgotten and all they will do is forward your complaint to the relevant bank. If your complaint is successful you'll pay around a third of any redress awarded to this company.I take it I am safe to accept whatever documentation they send without being locked in to use them.
Do you really think they would send you copies of agreements etc?
Far from having your personal data, they will likely have merely guessed your bank, the loan amount and when you paid it off. Don't fall for it. If you have a genuine PPI complaint already then send it yourself for free.
By the way, any company purporting to be "The Claims Department" is hardly trustworthy. Even if they do have your details (illegally) then I suggest you have nothing more to do with them.0 -
Searching for PPI Claims Department on the register of CMCs comes up with the page on this link.
I suggest you fill in the form and submit it.
If they call you again, ask them why that page comes up.0 -
Is there somewhere I can check if I might be due something.
To be perfectly honest, I am getting sucked in by the feeling there is something out there that I am owed and they are seeing it on some report or something but I just can't make the link.

There are no lists but if you've had any bank loans etc, simply phone the institution(s) concerned and ask if ppi was attached. If ppi was charged, you then need to show valid reasons why you believe it was mis-soldIs there somewhere I can check if I might be due something.
You're not "owed" anything. IF you paid ppi and it was unsuitable for you, you may be due recompense. To be perfectly honest, I am getting sucked in by the feeling there is something out there that I am owed and they are seeing it on some report or something but I just can't make the link.
Could be your getting sucked in . . . by a dodgy claims company.
Have you had any loans?
Did you pay any ppi?0 -
If they have your account numbers etc I fear that the data protection act may have been broken and I'd be asking them to tell you their source. If they refuse then I'd report them to the CMR.0
