What simple cooking item evades you?

Evening all,
Having a discusion on another thread i discovered even though i can cook a multitude of things with a wide variety of ingredients, i can follow a recipe to a 'T' and also make my own gorgeous concoctions.
I can NOT however make 'propper' chips or boil a runny egg to perfection!
Come on own up you whizzes in the kitchen must have something that turns out wrong every time :rotfl:
If not just make it up to make me feel better

I cannot make yorkshire puds to save my life.they are always flat and cakey.

I can not for the life of me make decent roast potatoes even my Mother who hasnt got a clue where the kitchen is let alone how to use a cooker can make them, but they fall to mushy bits when I try :rotfl:

thank you both for tarring your perfect reputations by admitting you fail at something.
I think there are alot of lurkers out there wishing they could do the same

My Yorkshire puddings rise, my pastry is light, my roasties crispy but......

my scones could be used as frisbies!!

ooohhhh.....that would be simple shortcrust pastry for me! I can do all the fancy stuff but if I try to make simple pastry it always shrinks and is rock solid.

And I can't make up that yellow custard from the packet either. :rotfl:

I make lovely yorkshire puds, and great roasties, but I cannot make omlettes - ends up as scarambled egss every single time.

I can't make rice pudding. Always goes wrong. I have given up now and buy it in a tin.

I can never do yorkshire puddings, I blame it on the oven! Also can't make an omlette to save my life, (hangs head in shame and hides)

However, I used to be rubbish at pastry, bread, pancakes and gravy. But over the years and with the help of many cookery books I've cracked them all. Practice makes perfect, don't give up

Oh thank you all, have been sat here giggling away, it has made my night.
Isn't it infuriating when you can do so many things well, and that one simple little thing is just out of reach.
